Blog: Technology As An Organizing Tool
"Upcoming" Events
Are you looking for something to do this weekend, or for
special events to attend while you're visiting another area? Or maybe you're
hosting an event yourself, and want an easy way to let others know about it? You
should check out Upcoming.
You can browse by city, date, category, or even venue to find
out what's happening. You can even sign up for an RSS feed for one or more of
those options! When you see an event that interests you, you can easily add it
to your own calendar (Outlook, Yahoo, Google, 30 Boxes, or iCal) with a simple
click of the mouse.
To add your own events, all you need is a Yahoo ID (which you
can get for free, if you don't already have one). You have the option of having
the event visible to the public, or only to people whom you invite. Invitations
can be sent by email or to Upcoming "groups" that you belong to. The only disadvantage I found was that it is restricted to events in "the real
world", so you can't use the site to promote teleclasses, webinars, or the like.
I'm surprised that more people haven't discovered this handy and easy-to-use
tool!
