Using Dress Assistant to Organize Your Wardrobe

One of my organizing pals, Jacki Hollywood Brown, recently told me about some neat software for managing your wardrobe, called Dress Assistant.

Dress Assistant is like an electronic version of your closet. You can enter all the items in your wardrobe, including shoes, underwear, and accessories. For each item, you indicate whether it's worn during the summer, winter, or spring/fall (mid season), and enter any other notes that might be helpful to you. To form outfits, you simply drag and drop the articles of clothing into another box on your screen screen and give it a name. You can even keep track of the events where you've worn the outfit if you're worried about a particular group of friends or associates seeing you in it too often.

I can see this being a great tool for trying out different combinations, especially if you're planning a trip and need to see what goes together and where there may be gaps in your wardrobe.

This software costs under $20.00, and is available for either Windows or Mac systems. You can download a free trial from http://www.dressassistant.com, which will accommodate up to 20 wardrobe items. The full version has no restrictions, and the license allows you to use it on up to five computers, for your whole family.

The instruction manual is clearly written by someone for whom English is not their first language, but the software isn't too complicated, so it's not too difficult to figure out what you need to do.

Thanks for the quote Janet. I'm waiting for the iPhone app of this software to come out. It will be easy to take my wardrobe with me shopping. That way I won't end up with 2 things the same and (in theory) I should be able to purchase coordinating pieces easily.

That's a brilliant idea - it would be even more beneficial if you can refer to the information while you're shopping, especially if you like to shop the sales and try and find things that go with what you already have, rather than going out looking for a particular item.

This sounds cool (if not mildly obsessive, which is possibly why I find it so appealing). Are the wardrobe entries made in text or by photos? I can only imagine it working for me if it was visual. Have you tried it?

I downloaded the free trial just to see how it works, but didn't actually set up my wardrobe. You can easily drag and drop your photos into the program, so it is definitely visual. I think you might like it!
