BE A SUCCESSFUL HOUSEKEEPER
Are you too busy being creative to bother with the nuisance of putting things in their proper place? You are probably a right-brained person, so Sandra Felton's book, The Messies Superguide, is meant for you.
Right-brained people seem to be messier than their left-brained counterparts. But in the long run, this frustrates you. You don't like all the time it takes to find all those misplace objects. Felton, who calls herself a "Messy", says it's important for "Messies" to see themselves as successful. Because you love creativity, you love beauty, and that's good. Now, take some steps to make your home more organized and beautiful.
Accept yourself, messy house and all, but then move on-just don't tackle the entire house at one time. Don't even decide to clean the entire kitchen. Break up the job into smaller, manageable chunks.
First, wash the dishes. Next, wipe off the cupboards. Then, put the dishes away. Do you like what you see? Keep going. Take the old food out of the refrigerator. (Don't tackle cleaning the fridge just yet. Keep it simple.) You know what? You're almost finished. Sweep and wash the floor and you've got a spotless kitchen. And you have the satisfaction of finishing six jobs, instead of just one. Now you have a plan for going step by step through any large task in an orderly fashion.
If you're still hesitant, use a timer to find out exactly how long it takes to do jobs you avoid because you don't like them. When you realized it only takes 5 minutes to sweep the floor, you'll be more likely to get in there and get it done. Take time to try this "divide and conquer" method and you will be a successful housekeeper even if you are by nature a "Messy!"
