Small Wonders
This studio kitchen in New York was featured on HGTV's Small Space Big Style last year. Giesen was able to create a gourmet kitchen in just 95 inches of space. A 24-inch stove and 18-inch dishwasher fit beneath the counter. Wood panels disguise the appliances to create a seamless, elegant look.
Since she lost drawer space for utensils under the counter, she had drawers built into the bottom of her upper cabinets. She uses her dining table as an extra work surface for food preparation. The table also folds open to accommodate more guests. This design is a true wonder.
This kitchen from their show, "Magic in Small Spaces" is another great example of a small but organized kitchen. The addition of open shelving under the cabinets provides easy access to everyday items. The lower cabinet to the left is actually the dishwasher. In fact, the whole kitchen disappears, thanks to the pocket doors. I love this idea. You can leave the mess and go enjoy dinner with your guests!
I think these are both amazing examples of what can be done in a small kitchen so I share these "small magical wonders" to inspire you.

TV Shows I enjoy
- Small Space, Big Style on HGTV
This show makes me dream of living in an even smaller apartment just to see how creative I could be.
- Mission Organization, HGTV
We all know it doesn't happen in a half-hour, but this show does do a great job of showing just what can happen when a professional organizer works with a willing client. Magic!!
- NEAT, HGTV
Sadly you can only catch repeats of this one, but Helen was my first on-camera organizing coach and as I told her when I met her at the POC in Toronto last year, she was an inspiration!!

- Leaven of Malice by Robertson Davies
because it makes me laugh everytime I read it (and he was a fellow Canadian)
- 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff
