Organization is a prerequisite for academic success. Organized students are better prepared to learn at school, complete homework assisgnments in less time, and experience less stress (and so do their families). The most successful students are organized students! Children who develop and maintain good organizational skills will not only be prepared for today's academic challenges but to excel in tomorrow's world.
High-achieving students don't forget when a report is due or arrive at an advanced math class without a calculator. These kids have learned the benefits and importance of having good organizational and time-management skills. Through trial and error, they have also learned what study habits work best for them.
These students, with their parents' and/or a professional's help, have unlocked the secrets to being super-motivated, enjoy studying, and know how to get results.
Here are 6 steps a parent can take to increase their child's academic success and self-confidence.
The holidays can be an overwhelming time for children and parents. Here are 5 tips that will help you control the chaos and manage the abundance of gifts.
Tip #1 Number of Gifts - Depends on Child's Age...
Experts agree that children need routines to follow. With having routines, children develop stability by letting the child know what is going to happen next and what they are expected to accomplish. According to Merlin Mann of 43Folders.com, "The majority of students never really learn to value their time and mange it while in school. Procrastination is all too rampant (studying right before class, doing homework and essays the day it's due, partying the night before the exam). This lack of time management often carries over into adulthood, which becomes a major liability." Children at a young age can start learning about setting priorities, accomplishing goals, and creating their own 'to-do...
As an adult, dealing with disorganization can cause minutes, hours, and even days of frustration due to misplaced items, forgetting appointments, and not having effective systems put into place. This disorganization affects a person's personal and professional life. When there is chaos and a lack of order in the home, this state of disorganization is easily transferred into professional affairs and space. Look back into your childhood, where you taught how to properly organize your bedroom closet, toy box, backpack or desk? Did you have a personal planner and a system for taking effective notes in class? Where you aware of the rewards of developing organizational skills? These skills were rarely taught in school and most likely you learned to mirror your parent's disorganization and poor attempts at managing time.
Children learn at a young age these overwhelming frustrations when they are unable to locate a favorite toy, can't find a homework assignment, or when they missed the school bus due to poor time management. These negative experiences assist in forming a child's academic confidence, esteem, and motivation. Getting a zero and missing an assignment can have a huge negative impact on a child's grade.
The need to be organized is growing every year. According to the 2004 study by Public Agenda, a nonpartisan opinion research organization reporting on public policy issues, today's children are more time crunched than ever, with 57 percent of all middle and high schoolers participating in an after-school activity almost every day of the week....
