Time is precious. But so are our kids.

February is Time Management month but it's also Parenting Leadership Month. Right now my husband and I are teaching a parenting class at our church on Sunday mornings. We're using a book called Boundaries for Kids and it talks in depth about the importance of outlining specific boundaries while raising kids.

My kids are now 17 and 20 and we've seen first hand how setting boundaries in regards to time has benefited not only the kids but also our family.
Years ago we established guidelines for each of our children they could be in two activities at any given time. And no overlapping whenever possible. Over the years they chose things like piano, clarinet and saxophone lessons. Swimming, soccer, softball, football, baseball, and golf were some of the sports. Then there were theater classes as well as Bible Quiz league, choir and let's not forget the stint in chess club.
Although we set up this rule because of our finances, we soon realized it was a huge contributor to our ability to have dinner around the table at night as well as to be able to make it to each child's event without feeling as if we were living in the car, eating fast food every night.
As you juggle the demands of life as well as the desires of your kids, recognize what your parental responsibility truly is. It isn't that your child becomes the next Tiger Woods. It's that you raise responsible, well adjusted children who are ready to face the world as young adults.
You want to help your child learn how to juggle things like homework, school projects, sports, music practice, household chores & responsibilities. The older he/she gets, the more they will appreciate the fact they weren't overwhelmed with an activity five nights a week.
Time is precious. Enjoy your kids.
Here's to happy kids,
