Post Its for Outlook
If you have been using Outlook for any length of time, I am sure you have seen the little section for using the cute little Post It Notes. However, if you are like most people you probably haven't been able to come up with a great idea for actually USING the little babies! You want to play with them and put pertinent information on them and color code the little electronic stickies, but your brain comes to a stand still. HOW can you use them effectively?!
Well, I have come up with a couple of great ideas that I am enjoying like there is no tomorrow!
I use PayPal for a lot of my eBooks and services and most of the time I have post the PayPal link in my newsletters, blogs, multiple websites, etc. and it can be a pain in the butt to go out to PayPal, recreate the information, copy the link and go back out and paste the info. Talk about a waste of time! Instead of banging my head up against a wall, I simply create the link once, copy it and paste it into the little note in Outlook. I label it with the product or service name and I include the cost so I don't have to worry about trying to remember what I am charging people! It is WONDERFUL!
If you do a lot of shipping of orders and you keep the tracking numbers for out bound orders, try using the Notes section in Outlook for those numbers. Label the note by carrier and customer name for easier search capabilities. Once they have been delivered and received, instead of deleting them if you want to hold onto the information "just in case", change the color from Yellow to Pink. That way you have a visual reminder of it being closed.
How about team members for a specific project? If you are managing several projects with different groups of people, try having a separate note for each project with the list of the people associated with it.
Let's not forget gift lists! If you have some great ideas for birthday presents, plans for a special anniversary weekend, and let's not forget Valentine's Day, try keeping an electronic list of some of your ideas. Nine out of ten if you have a snooping family member the last place they will go is the "Notes" section in your Outlook!
If you are loving the ideas or have a few of your own, but you can't find them in your Outlook quickly hit Ctrl 5 and you will be taken to the Notes section. Just remember, you need to be in Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007 NOT Outlook Express. If the quick key is working, you can also go to the top Menu Bar and click "Go" and "Notes".
Happy Organizing!
