Too Effcient = Inefficient?
Can one be too efficient? Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it?

I'm thinking about this as I make lunch for my kids. I make it, I put everything away and then inevitably one wants more of something I just put away. I start thinking about how in certain situations, being too efficient is actually being inefficient.

Like making your bed then later in the day stripping it to wash sheets.
Like arriving way too early to an appointment and have nothing on hand to do.
Like shoveling in the middle of a snowfall.
Like planting too early in the spring.
Like putting away winter outerwear too soon.
Like bringing mail out to the mailbox, only to find more that needs to go out later.
Like addressing your Christmas cards in August only to have multiple people move, marry or divorce.
Like sending an email and then having the problem resolve itself within the day.
(Consider this: the more efficient the means of communication - the less it is valued.)

Like reading the first chapter, then last chapter of a book and being done.
OK, that's not really inefficient, but it sure is fun to do!

Think about certain behaviors you do, are you being too efficient??

Here's a blog post about an incident in efficiency at Costco.
