Electronic Filing for Dummies
A colleague recently introduced me to a product called OrganizeMY Electronic Filing Cabinet for Dummies.
Right up front I have to say that despite the success of the "Dummies" brand, I have a problem buying anything with that label, although it's slightly less demeaning than their competition, the "Complete Idiot's Guides." However, the computer geek in me was willing to put aside my prejudice and at least find out what the product is all about, and I was impressed!
When you install the software, it creates a set of folders on your computer to correspond to the type of information saved by typical users. The Personal version includes a number of financial and household categories, while the Professional version includes these as well as popular small business categories. This saves you the time and trouble not only of setting up the folders yourself, but of figuring out what folders you need in the first place. You're not restricted to these categories, but can rename and delete them according to your needs.
What's really unique about this product is that it isn't just for filing documents you've created on your computer – you can also add scanned documents, emails, key contacts, reminders, and web pages, and these will all be accessible through one screen related to a particular topic.
This might be more organization than some people need, especially with powerful tools available like Windows Search and Google Desktop that make it quick and easy to find information on your computer, but if an electronic filing system is what you're looking for, you really can't go wrong with this product.
