Situationally Disorganized
I had a new client this week who found herself overwhelmed with paperwork because she recently took over the care of her aging mother who moved down to her from up north and into a local assisted living facility. My client is normally fairly organized, but due to the things she's now dealing with, her paperwork is out of control. For anyone who has ever felt situationally disorganized—meaning, your current disorganization is due to situations in your life at this time—I wanted to suggest this Fact Sheet from the NSGCD (National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization) website.
If you click on the new "Situationally Disorganized" checklist on this page, you will see reasons you may be temporarily buried in paper as the result of one (or more) of these life changing events. People often forget that life changing events can upset the applecart, and they start blaming themselves or their personal character for their lack of disorganization, rather than seeing that the ground has shifted under their feet and it's only natural that old systems aren't enough for their new/changing situation.
I just wanted to point you in the direction of these tools, which are free to the public.
