 End-of-Year Student Wrap-Up
If you have school-aged children you MUST get 'The Organized Student' by Donna Goldberg. One of the final chapters in this book covers how to wrap up your student's papers, projects, artwork, etc. at the end of the school year. The importance of this goes beyond keeping things for sentimental reasons or as a family historian. The purpose of helping your student clean out their books and notes at the end of the year is to teach your child an extremely important lesson that is not taught in school: committing to finishing the process.

"Whether it's the end of a unit or the end of the year, the last piece of the puzzle is not part of the curriculum. Since there is barely enough time in the classroom to cover required material, sorting and storing old projects is something that needs to be dealt with at home. The sooner you can teach your child these skills, the more space you will have in your home and the easier it will be for your child to live her own life unencumbered by things she no longer uses."
"As you clear your child's backpack and desk you will be teaching her how to distinguish between what's worth keeping and what isn't… Help her avoid the "I'll just keep everything" syndrome. The ability to prioritize and assign value to things lies at the core of organization."
