Blog: Technology As An Organizing Tool
Another Tool for Finding and Promoting Events Online

Since writing about Upcoming last week, I have discovered Zvents, which is very similar, but is much more polished and seems to have a lot more events posted on it, at least for my local area.

Where Upcoming allows you to browse for events by category, city, or date, Zvents lets you drill down deeper to search by subcategory or neighbourhood. Both sites offer an RSS feed as well as the capability of adding events to your electronic calendar with just a click of your mouse. However, Zvents takes things a step further, by offering a printable view of the event (which includes a map) and a Share It button that allows you to quickly and easily add the page to your blog, your favorite social web or bookmarking service, or to email it to a friend. Both sites allow you to post your own events at no cost, but Zvents lets you add your logo or other images to enhance your listing.

Zvents is geared towards entertainment, and allows users to post reviews of movies, performers, restaurants, and other venues.

On the downside, although Zvents has a tool for adding an events calendar to your own website, I wasn't able to make it work within the time I was willing to spend trying. In addition, although there's a spot on the page labelled "Groups" it merely says " You do not belong to any groups" and doesn't offer instructions on how to create a group or where to find groups you can join.

I would definitely recommend using Zvents if you're looking for something to do, but for promoting your own events, you should probably use both sites.
