DO MORE IN LESS TIME
You really can make every minute count with a few easy efficient tips. We probably all have our favorite ways to waste time….like getting on the phone to gab when a deadline is fast approaching or taking on everything ourselves rather than "delegating". Sound familiar? Okay then, we haven't a minute to lose!
Begin now to transform lost minutes into productive hours. Everyone has a time of day when we're at our prime. Perhaps yours is 9AM or early afternoon…maybe even later in the evening. It doesn't really matter, just don't squander it on mundane work – use this time to tackle your most difficult tasks.
If at all possible, make sure that at least an hour of your prime time is free of interruptions. Make it known to family or coworkers that you really need this time to concentrate. Don't answer the phone if possible but if you have to, then tell the callers you'll get back to them A.S.A.P. You'll feel better the rest of the day because you'll get more done in less time.
Daily routine can be a deadly trap that keeps you from ever getting around to that important long-term project during the main hours of the day. Then what happens? Time is wasted on less important tasks, you end up working overtime, or take work home to catch up. You may find that if you often say you'll fit in a certain project when you have the time – you'll never find time!
The solution is simple – make a plan and work only that plan. Some experts suggest that you keep a running "master list" of all the things you need to do, with due dates noted next to each one. A simple spiral notebook can work, or better yet, make a place for this in a daily planner notebook or PDA that fits into your purse, briefcase, or lab pocket. Then, whenever you have a moment to review your tasks you can whip it out and check it or add to it. Do this every day and decide well ahead of time what the top two or three priorities are for the next day.
