Organizing the Pool Shed

Isn't it great to have a pool in your back yard for those refreshing dips in this hot weather?! The pool shed always seems to be a catch-all for all kinds of things.  Try the tips below to turn your pool shed into a well-organized place for your summer things!

First, decide what you plan to use your pool shed for.  This may sound obvious, but often times we just shove things in places with no thought.  Maybe you would like to use your pool shed to store pool supplies, inflatables for the kids, gardening supplies, and maybe some paper supplies (i.e. paper cups, plates, and napkins).

Once you decide what you would like to store in your pool shed, it's time to get to work.  Starting from one side of the shed and working towards the other, go through your things.  Pull each item out and decide whether or not you need to keep it.

Next, set up piles outside the pool shed putting like items together.

Once everything has been emptied out, give the floor a good sweep and clean the windows and any other surface space you may have.

Now it's time to put everything back keeping in mind the accessibility factor.  Here are some ideas for storing items:

a.    Rakes and long handled items can be stored on the wall or in a rack especially designed to hold them.

b.    Smaller gardening supplies such as trowels, cutting shears, and gardening gloves can be kept in a shoe box size plastic container.

c.    Pool chemicals should be kept in sealed containers away from animals and kids.

d.    Hang the pool skimmer and vacuum across the wall with hooks.

e.    Inflatables and kids toys should be stored in an oversized plastic container and kept on the floor near the door for easy access.

f.     Consider hanging larger floats on the wall or from the ceiling.

g.    Paper items can be stored in a sealed plastic container to keep the small bugs out and to keep them fresh and clean.

Now that you're well-organized, you'll have more time to spend enjoying your pool!
