Microsoft Office Live Workspace

A few months ago, I wrote about the benefits of using Google Docs to easily share word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation files online with clients, colleagues, or your virtual assistant. I should have known that Microsoft wouldn't be left behind, with all the competition between Google and Microsoft!

Microsoft Office Live Workspace offers all the benefits of Google Docs with one major plus – it actually works with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and even Outlook! This means that you can use all the features you're accustomed to, and that you can upload files that you've already created from your hard drive. If you often work on different computers, this is a great way to ensure that you have access to your important files (up to 500 MB) even if you don't need to share files with anyone else, and best of all, you can organize them in whatever way works best for you. The Microsoft Office Live Workspace website suggests a number of practical applications for business, school, and personal use, and I'm very excited to think of all the ways I can use this tool in my VA business!

You do need a Windows Live ID to use the service, but if you've ever used Hotmail, MSN Messenger, or other Microsoft services, you probably already have one. If not, no worries – it's free and will only take you a few minutes to sign up.
