FOCUS, FOCUS - LEARN TO CONCENTRATE!
To work more effectively you need to learn to concentrate all your efforts on what you're doing here and now. Some people turn out as much work in an hour as it takes others to do in four. They've mastered the art of making a decision or solving a problem in a matter of minutes while others mutter away minutes for days. Just what is their secret to effectiveness?
It's concentration! If you'd like to improve yours there are a few habits you'll need to cultivate:
1.) Give yourself completely to the task at hand. As with some raffle drawings – You must be present to win. If you find yourself dwelling on a problem from yesterday, stop and decide if there's something you can do about it today.
2.) If you can, formulate a plan of action and carry it out. If you can't, refuse to focus on it any further and put your full attention on what you're doing right now.
3.) Put your energy into today, not allow the past or future to eat up the present. Keep in mind the biblical mandate to not worry about tomorrow for each day has enough trouble of its own.
4.) Whenever possible, avoid, resist, ad eliminate distractions. Even when you can't isolate yourself to accomplish one task and you must deal with interruptions, you can still resolve to concentrate.
5.) Temporarily turn your mind away from your task and focus on the interruption. When it's under control you can put your full attention back on the task. You'll find that both the interruption and the task will be dealt with in less time.
6.) Take it one-task-at-a-time. If you decide to start your day finishing something from the day before, don't be sidetracked by something you need to do later that day. Begin that project after you've finished the left-over project.
7.) You'll need to make a plan to take each task in turn, scheduling when you will do them and then stick to your plan as much as possible!
Remember: "If you fail to plan…you plan to fail!"
