Blog: Organizing for Boomers
DEADLINES CONTINUE TO BE DELICIOUS!!!
I've spoken of deadlines before in previous blogs but I just have to share with you an experience of last week that really brings this point home.
I have an organizing client who I have been working with for several months. This busy mom has started her own business and has a vision of how she would like it to be. This is a new experience for her and one that has so many components to it that she felt the need to contact a professional in the organizing field to get her on track and help her to stay on track as well.
We started working together last spring and into the summer. We were making great progress up until school recessed in June and then her two daughters were home for the summer. While it would have been easy for her to take the summer escape route and head to the beach, my client continued to work on her product presentation and production, development of her website, and business development opportunities.
She set a launch date of mid-September to unveil her company to a wider audience at a Business EXPO in a neighboring city and launch a brand-new website. Many steps were needed to have everything ready, including having to change the name of her company, a step she hadn't planned on.
A new name had to be selected; new business cards had to be ordered, along with other marketing materials; a newer, more sophisticated presentation booth needed to be designed and executed; content for her website needed to be written and communicated with her web designer.
All of this had to occur during the sensational, summery days when the surf and sun were calling her to the blue Pacific.
This wonderful client, stayed the course, hunkered down and implemented that great "F" word for 2008. You know the word I'm talking about-the one Tiger Woods made famous earlier this year, winning the U.S. Open while playing golf with a surgery-needed injury.
The "F" word I'm talking about is FOCUS. This great gal stayed focused, kept the September 17th deadline right in front of her, and just kept moving forward. No setback was too big. No detour took her completely off track. She just got right back on her Path to Success and kept her vision clear.
The day of the event I couldn't have been prouder if I'd just given birth to triplets! She had an outstanding booth display, fabulous new marketing materials, stunning samples for all to taste, and her first-ever website. Everything about the launch of her company said CLASSY!
So, readers, what deadlines have you dreaded or postponed? Can you just turn into the wind and make a deadline for something you want to do, and then, like my client and like Nike always tells us, JUST DO IT?
Write me at boomer@theredteam and let me know how you have made a Deadline Delicious. I want to hear your success stories. My client is simply AMAZING and I am so proud of how far she has come. Drive, determination, and FOCUS can make all of our deadlines downright DELICIOUS!!
Until Next Time…
