Blog: Creative and Crafty Organizing
What do you know about your family?
I love the holiday season.
In our family, the holiday start just before Halloween with my father in laws birthday. That get together usually consists of our planning and conversations about what we want to do for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I just love chatting with the relatives. I learn so much about them... things I never knew (or not sure I wanted to know ).
One thing my family didn't know about me is that I like to collect old family photographs. They make a wonderful conversation piece in my home, plus it makes me feel a little connected to times long gone by.
I often look at them and wonder what they were thinking when the picture was being taken. Did you ever notice how in old pictures (like 1920 or earlier) people never look happy? The truth is that it was common for people not to smile when being photographed.
Another reason I like them is that I want to be able to share those pieces of history with my own children so that they can then share it with their children.
A few years back, I read this great article in Real Simple (I know, I know... your shocked right???) about getting to know your family and getting a deeper understanding of your relatives. There was a list of questions that you can ask family members about their childhood, jobs they have had, other family members and so much more.
I decided this year it might be fun to break out the questions and start the sharing. After all, isn't that what the holidays are all about?
