LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FUN AND HAPPINESS
Have you ever thought that those who live in Hollywood and year-round sun lead a glamorous and fun-filled life, thus they must be happier than others?
If so, you may need to reconsider the difference between happiness and fun.
In truth, fun and happiness have little or nothing in common. Fun is what is experienced "during" an activity. Happiness is what is experienced "after" an activity and is actually a deeper emotion. If anything can be learned from the Hollywood crowd is that glamorous parties, expensive cars, luxurious vacations, and fancy homes more often than not lead to unhappiness. We know this from the countless memoirs of celebrities who reveal that hidden beneath all their "fun" is: depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, broken marriages, troubled children, and profound loneliness.
Oddly enough pain and happiness play a significant role. More often than not, things that lead to happiness involve some pain. Difficult endeavors such as raising children, creating a deep relationship with your spouse, and trying to do unto others – will bring you more happiness than can be found in so-called "fun" things.
Understanding and accepting that true happiness does not necessarily equate with "fun" is actually a very freeing realization. It frees our time, because we can now devote more hours to activities that can increase our happiness. It frees our money; because we won't long for expensive cars and clothes which turn out to be pointless. And, it frees us from jealousy, because we now realize the truth in the old saying, "All that glitters is not gold."
Once we understand that fun doesn't bring lasting happiness, we'll begin to use our time much differently!
