Hidden Gems in the Clutter--A Beautiful Lost and Found Story

What lays hidden in our unwanted, accumulated stuff?

We've all had the experience of losing something in the clutter. Many times it's the keys, an important document or a piece of clothing; it's always exciting and a big relief when we finally find it, too. Sometimes, though, we never find the stuff or don't find it for a very long time. This week I have a beautiful lost and found story. It came to me from, Claire, one of my loyal callers on Mondays With Maggie; I just had to share it with all of you!

"Twenty-seven years ago my mom had surgery and asked my dad to safeguard her wedding ring. He couldn't find it when she came back from the hospital and she's been mad at him for 27 years for losing it. I was going through some of my dad's stuff (with his permission) looking for things for the tag sale yesterday and found a very small leather box containing old-fashioned shirt studs. The box had "Studs" engraved on the outside. Not knowing what studs were, I opened it up and found my mom's ring right on top!!

The other part of the story is that my dad had stopped wearing his ring a long time ago because it was getting tight and causing a callous. This was sometime after he "lost" my mom's ring. He put it somewhere and couldn't find it either. I found it in another small box a few days before I found my mom's ring. They are planning to get both rings resized since neither one fits anymore."

Isn't that lovely? A daughter supports her parents in a move from their family home and hearts are mended.

I'm on a hunt for great "hidden gems in the clutter" lost and found stories. I'd love to use it here in the blog. Please email me: with your stories. Thank you!

Happy Organizing!

Maggie
