Blog: Technology As An Organizing Tool
Online Money Management
Back in the early 1990s, I had an Amiga 500, and when I bought a new mouse, it came with a bunch of software, including a personal financial manager. I liked being able to track my expenses electronically, so when I switched to a PC, I bought Microsoft Money, which I used for several years. When I started my own business, I bought Quicken Home & Business, because there wasn't a business version of MS Money available in Canada at that time. I now let a professional look after my business bookkeeping, but I still use Quicken for my personal finances.
Using a computer sure makes it easier to keep track of your bank account balances and how you are spending your money, and now Intuit, the makers of Quicken, have made it even easier, not to mention more affordable. Last month they introduced Quicken Online, a free service for tracking your personal spending. No need to buy software or worry about upgrades, and because it's online, you can access it from any Internet connection, which is great if you're often on the road. You can even connect to all of your bank accounts, including PayPal, so you don't have to log into each one separately. For your peace of mind, Intuit uses the same technology as the major financial institutions to safeguard your data.
If you've been looking for an affordable electronic solution to money management, this would be a great place to start.
