The Secret Gift Giving Tips of An Organizer Coach--Top Ten Countdown Part 1
Before I became an Organizer Coach I was the average person who shopped excitedly for everyone on my Christmas list. I searched high and low and found exactly what they wished for because I wanted to make them happy; besides, I dreaded the thought of standing in the "Return Line".
I thought nothing of buying the latest fads or toys that had hundreds of pieces and took hours to assemble for all the children in my life. I never gave a thought to where these wonderful gifts would be stored, either. It never occurred to me that they might find their way into the back of a closet, or the garage or basement in a few weeks.
I thought nothing of buying cute little knick knacks and stocking stuffers from popular discount stores, several magazine subscriptions or little trinkets that would eventually get lost in a sea of stuff. I was simply being a kind, generous auntie, friend and sister. Yes, I was clueless about clutter!
True confession; that was me B.O.C.-Before Organizer Coach!
Two and a half years and many organizing clients later, I am reformed! I have seen the light and changed my ways. Gift giving at the holidays and all through the year has taken on a whole new meaning and practice. I can no longer keep this a secret! For the first time ever, I'm sharing ten of my favorite gift giving tips with you, my loyal readers; it's time you knew. Here are five of my Top Ten Gift Giving Tips:
- #10.Give edibles; they'll leave no trace of ever having been around! This doesn't include fruit cake.
- #9.Never buy in bulk, except those things which are edible, of course.
- #8.Don't give kitchen gadgets that are advertised on TV or paid programming shows, unless, of course, you or someone you know need garage decorations.
- #7.Never shop again! Start your own store: "Endless Regifting"! Create a special drawer to stash away all those unwanted gifts. Turn over is the secret; move that merchandise! Yes, even if you have to give it all to your mother-in-law. (Not applicable if your mother-in-law gave it all to you first.)
- #6. Never give gifts you have to dust, polish, launder or iron. Those aren't gifts, they're work!
More next week…
Happy Shopping!
