My Technology Wish List (Part 2)

Hi Santa, it's me again.

When I went to the east coast with my dad last year, he brought along a GPS navigator. Although it wasn't infallible (it did tell us to drive into the forest once or twice), it was a great help, especially when we weren't on the main highway and when we needed to find a place to eat or fill the gas tank. That was the first time I'd seen one of those gadgets, and I realized it could really be handy when I'm going somewhere unfamiliar for a meeting or speaking engagement. Since I'm usually on my own at those times, I don't have someone to guide me, and you have no idea how many times I've had to pull over to check to make sure I'm still heading in the right direction.

There are a lot of GPS systems available and I really have no idea which one would best suit my needs. I don't do a lot of driving, so something basic like the TomTom ONE 130 3.5-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator would probably be most sensible, but if you're feeling extra generous, you probably couldn't go wrong with a Garmin nüvi 360 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Text-To-Speech. It's got a lot of extra features, including the ability to listen to MP3s through my car audio system and to connect with my cell phone for hands free calling. This is a valuable safety feature and will help me to comply with Ontario's new legislation around the use of cell phones while driving.

A world traveller like yourself is probably much more familiar with these devices so I will let you decide what you think is best for me – even if it's something different altogether.

I am in no position (whatever position I might be in GPS terms) to comment on the technology you have written about, but I would like to commend you on your breezily humorous and therefore most readable writing. (I do know a thing or two about writing. :-))
