ANALYZE AND EVALUATE THIS NEW YEAR
It's time to stop doing unnecessary work. Evaluate your work and decide which chores you are doing that are unnecessary chores like:
* ironing underwear
* pajamas and sheets
* scrubbing dirty gym socks until they are sparkling white
* bargain hunting at four different grocery stores (realize that it takes time and extra gas)
* stop redoing a job because you weren't as careful as you could have been the first time – good enough is probably best in most cases
Ask yourself which jobs are necessary for reasonable cleanliness, safety, and thirst then eliminate tasks which are questionable. And, don't over extend yourself. This can be a trap if you're a kind, generous person.
If you find yourself becoming resentful, angry, and overwhelmed because you all too often work until midnight on the tasks you volunteered for, then you need to consider your generous impulses carefully. The next time you're asked, wait at least thirty seconds before you say "yes" to a volunteer task, or will you have to take time from something else that's more important to you – like family or sleep!
The same is true for other commitments. An aerobics class that meets twice a week, for instance, combined with traveling time, practice at home, and spend time shopping for special clothing or equipment can add up to more hours than you can afford away from other activities.
So, the next time you are asked to say "yes" to a volunteer project – before you answer, ask yourself: "What will I be saying 'no' to if I say yes to this request? Bottom line: Whenever you say yes to something you will say no to something else!
