Creative ways to display (and organize) kids artwork...
As you may or may not know, I have two boys (now, 4 and 6) that, like their mommy, love to create things and be crafty.
It seems like everyday when they come home from school, they are bringing home some beautiful piece of artwork that I can't seem to part with. I have really struggled with this department ever since they started school; it's hard to decide what is worth saving and what isn't.
I came across this article in Southern Living (of all places) that really got my attention. What I liked about the article was that it's gives you some steps in creating a masterpiece worth displaying in your home.
Personally, I love to frame and display my kids works.... it's cheap art and much more appealing to look at!
Keeping all the kids art organized though, is an entirely different beast that is worth noting... here is what I do....
1. Limit the number of items the kids keep throughout the school year as best as you can.
2. If I find something that is really amazing, I will frame it and hang it up somewhere in the house.
3. The rest of their works are kept in a Schoolfolio for the year.
4. At the end of the school year, we pick out 5 of our (his) favorites and toss the rest.
5. As we are picking through the current year, we look back on what we have saved and remember "way back when..."
I like the idea of giving him the CHOICE to decide what to keep, it saves me the pressure from deciding. I also like the fact that we SET A LIMIT and he is alright with that. It's important to teach kids at a young age, there are limits and we have to live within them...
How do you keep your kids artwork organized?
