Blog: Creative and Crafty Organizing
Your "creative" workspace - what does it look like?
If you work from home or in a corporate office, your workspace speaks a lot about who you, what you like, and what makes you happy. We spend over 2/3 of our week in that space, so why shouldn't it make us feel good to be there?
Martha had an interesting article in her January Living Mag about creativity at work, which of course inspired me to think about how important it is to include a bit of our own creative style into our workspace! Personality and Functionality really are the backbone to an effective working space.
Ask yourself...
1. What do I need to accomplish? If you need to do writing, research or busy work, ask yourself these questions... What kind of work surface do you need? What resources need to be available? What tools do I need to have? Do I have an adequate space to accomplish my goals?
2. Where do I draw inspiration? Depending on the type of job you have, it helps to have some inspiration. If it's writing, being creative or doing administrative work, being inspired helps anyone get the job done.
I personally draw inspiration from things I read, beautifully organized spaces and colorful images. It's not unusual to see an eclectic arrangement of pictures and random items on my desk. I don't mind working in a mess, because I know that when it's said and done, everything has it's place. I start each day with a clean desk and end the day exactly the same.
Incorporating what your goals are and your inspiration will allow you to have a functional and happy workspace. You might be surprised to see how much you will get done when you have a creative space that fits your style.
