February 9th - Clean Out Your Computer Day...
I love the Online Organizing Calendar... it's a great tool to use through the year to maintain good organization in your business or personal life. I myself will be working this weekend to clean out my computer for February 9th.
Deciding what to get rid of is a common question for most people; after all, computers were supposed to allow us to "keep" all that information...
So, how do we decide?
With getting anything organized, it's so important to think about what and how often we use them, if you are not using it, why keep it, it's just cluttering your life. The same method of thinking should apply to our computers too, right?
Here are a few things to consider when "purging" items on your computer:
1. COMPLETED PROJECTS or TASKS.
If you have completed projects and or tasks that no longer need to be referenced, they can go. Research materials and/or copies of documents are all just adding more plunder to your files... be sure to properly identify your computer files so you know exactly what's inside. If you need to keep it fine, just properly code and categorize your folders.
2. DEFINE REFERENCE MATERIALS.
You really need to define what reference is. Websters defines it as an act of referring or use as a purpose of information. Make sense right? Once you know your personal definition of reference, it makes the decision of knowing what to keep easier.
3. CURRENT IS KEY!
If you have documents that are 5+ years old, and you haven't had the need or desire to go back to reference them, why are you keeping them? Creating a purging system is a helpful tool in maintaining good computer organization.
Thanks Ramona... I love this day (and so does my PC).
