Five habits worth getting into...
I am a firm believer that if you want to get organized, you just have to get into the habit of doing so. With two small kids, I am finding myself spending most days teaching (and reminding) them of good habits to get into.
"Bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into, but hard to get out of." Proverb
We get into these bad habits because we find that maybe the task or action doesn't sound like much fun at the moment, so we put it off or dismiss it.
I always remind my kids, "If you would put your toys away, you would know where they are when you need them..." Although bad habits are hard to break, they are not impossible.
Start small... here are five great habits to get yourself into... TODAY!
1. Pick Up After Yourself... This counts for everything: dishes, laundry, toys, games what ever! It's important to leave a space, the way you found it!
2. Containerize... The idea of containerizing things teaches us to sort the like with like, but also allows us to break things down into managable pieces, therefore, making it easier to maintain and retrieve!
3. Process Paper Immediately... If it's a bill or homework, manage it right away. The second you put it down, it's gone. If it doesn't need immediate attention, have a special place for processing at a later date.
4. Recycling Saves Trash... When you understand the importance of recycling, you not only reduce the amount of garbage you discard, but it teaches us that everything is not disposable.
5. End Each Day, Knowing What You are Doing Tomorrow... This is key element to be prepared (or organized). If you know ahead of time what to expect for tomorrow, even if you aren't a planner, you can still think ahead.
