Twelve Easy Breezy Tips For Staying Organized

After all of your diligence and perseverance you now have a bright, fresh, organized space! The question that always follows is, "How do I keep it this way?"

Organizing can be approached in one of two ways. You can make a choice to organize once every few months or years or you can make a choice to incorporate it into your life as a routine activity. The answer to the question, "How do I maintain this?" is best answered with the second approach. True maintenance is about a life style shift. It's similar to choosing to diet on and off or develop an eating plan that is consistent.

I want to reiterate something I've said in the past about being organized. Being organized is not about neatness, although, it can be; it's about being able to find and put things away in under two minutes. There will always be a cycle of order, disorder. It's natural, expect it.

Here are some choices you can make to maintain your beautiful organized space:

  1. Start with one small area and practice keeping it organized everyday.
  2. Make it a habit to start taking unwanted items to charity organizations once a month.
  3. Set an example for family members on how to let go, by living the habit, not preaching about it.
  4. Make being organized one of your values.
  5. Know that we train people how to treat us. Lead by example.
  6. Have good storage systems in place. Have "homes" for everything!
  7. Use all available spaces for storage—think "up".
  8. Keep only those things that make you feel good. Let go of the items that create a sense of heaviness or guilt.
  9. Work on improving your self worth.
  10. Say "No" to other people's stuff. Accept stuff on your terms only.
  11. Learn to be happy with less.
  12. Don't over schedule yourself. Disorganization can be linked to a hurried lifestyle.

Being organized requires a commitment, but it can be approached with a positive, hopeful attitude. When you focus on what it is that is important to you, lead by example and recognize that there is no perfection, being organized will more easily become a natural part of your routine.

Love To You,
