Laundry Tips and Tricks
I find myself writing about laundry A LOT! Perhaps it is because laundry is one of the household tasks that takes up most of my time, never seems to end and can become a discouraging chore. Over the years, with three active boys and a career as a professional organizer I've learned what tips work and what tips aren't as helpful. So, let me share the tips that have been helpful to me in my quest to find the bottom of the dirty laundry basket:
- Rather than sorting clothes by color, I sort them by owner. Each family member has their own laundry basket and I was their clothes separately. This is much easier as when they come out of the dryer, there is no sorting by owner to be done. I fold them and give them to their rightful owner to put away.
- Have all the essential tools available and within easy reach. On the shelf above my washer and dryer, I have scissors to snip stray threads, a small container for coins and all the other treasures you can find in a little boys pocket, plastic gloves to protect your hands from some of the chemicals (especially if you have sensitive skin like I do), lint remover, stain remover product (pre-treating can go a long way for even the most stubborn stains!), bleach, fabric softener and a vegetable brush for working on difficult stains.
- I also have a rod and plastic tube hangers for hanging clothes that should not go in the dryer.
- Schedule laundry days- I have specific days for the kids clothes, me and the hubby's clothes, linens, etc. Having a routine will keep you on track.
What tips and tricks make laundry day easier for you? Please feel free to share in the comments!
Happy Laundering :-)
