Say "No" for an Entire Day
No. Such a short word, such big impact. Think of all the time you could save if you said "no" to people for an entire day.
I just received an email from someone who was put into contact with me by a mutual friend. He offers services I don't need right now. I emailed him to say I would keep his contact information on file, but "no thank you". He emailed me back to say, "That's fine. Is it OK if I add you to my email list for regular updates of my services?"
My initial reaction was to say, "no problem" because of course I don't want to hurt his feelings by saying "no"--more so because we have a mutual friend. But I knew that when I saw his emails come in every week, I would just delete them without reading them and that's just one more thing I'd have to deal with in my already cluttered in-box. So I wrote him back and said, "I appreciate you asking my permission, but I'm going to have to say no thank you." I just saved myself seconds each week that would add up to minutes over the month and possibly an hour over the course of a year.
What could you say no to that would save you time? What could you opt out of (an email list, a commitment, or other) TODAY that would make you breathe a little easier?
