Workaholism
Julie Morgenstern is the most famous Professional Organizer in the U.S., and in her new book When Organizing Isn't Enough SHED Your Stuff, Change Your Life not only does she discuss heaving physical attachments but also habit attachments. One of the habits she highlights is workaholism.
To change your workaholism Morgenstern recommends that you first raise your awareness of your habit. Most workaholics have a "witching hour" which is a point in the day when they know they should stop and wind down. However, they have a hard time stopping and transitioning to their personal lives.
The book provides a variety of ways to break the workaholism habit. One example is to set measurable goals for your leisure time. Morgenstern states, "Workaholics tend to find satisfaction in the tangible results they receive from getting work done." By setting goals for your leisure time, such as each week jog a total of 10 miles, you will provide yourself the ability to "check something off" and have the sense of being industrious.
You may not have to manage your leisure time in such a task-oriented mode forever, but it helps when transitioning from workaholic habits.
