Blog: It's good to be back!
WOW! What a year!
For many of you this will be your first introduction to me! I blogged with www.onlineorganizing.com in 2007 and have taken a bit of a vacation. Last Spring, my husband was transferred and we began the agonizing journey of packing up our well running household and moving two hours north to a wee bit larger home with far less storage options! We literally had two weeks to pack up our home and unpack right after the first month of school and we blew in like a tornado only to have to restart life within a weekend. Now, for most of you this is a normal tale and LOTS of people have done the same thing. For ME, it was torture! Not having adequate time to organize like I wanted and unpack and organize from the front end as the planning person I am...I felt THROWN into a new life without a map! Sure, I had the house unpacked and all the boxes out of the house by the following afternoon but had NO SYSTEMS in place. Also, rooms had not been designated for particular functions. My husband and I both work out of a home office and share the house with two boys, 6 & 4, that have, like all do, ton's of stuff and more that comes in daily!!!
Like anyone would, I fell off the organized wagon! I struggle with it daily and postpone what I know needs to be done. I have not found my rhythm yet and have suffered for it. Picking up my own business and moving and having to start all new again has also been difficult. Most days I just want a little ME time and knowing I could throw the house together at a moment's notice makes me procrastinate more. Yesterday I was outside watching my boys and their friends on the slip and slide looking at my flower beds. When we moved here the previous owner had a landscaping company that maintained this yard. Ummm...we don't! Everytime I go out there I look at the weeds, think to myself "we're gonna have to get on that this weekend", the next time there are more weeds to look at. Finally realizing yesterday as I was thinking of how this blog was going to go, it hit me! Life is all about maintenance, and I KNOW THIS! I teach it, support it and expect it!
So, now after weeks of procrastination I will be faced with a full weekend overhaul of tearing it all out to make it new again. Sound familiar? Most of us are doing the very best we can to balance a dozen different hats...we are moms, but we are a new breed of moms and we have to forge into unknown territory that many of our own moms never had to deal with. So, visit me each week as we go room by room. Addressing all the things that we as 21st century moms have to deal with like: email management, agenda's, laundry, managing multiple charging cords, schoolwork, crafts that come home from school, our pantry, our closets & more!
