GETTING THOSE COUPONS ORGANIZED
Some people go food shopping without any coupons. They don't want to concern themselves with organizing coupons. As a result, they don't save as much money at the check-out as those of us who do collect coupons.
However, for us busy moms who do take the time to cut out coupons and go on line to print them out, we need to keep the pile organized.
I have collected coupons from the Sunday paper and weekly ads for as long as I can remember. I am one of those people who get a big thrill out of saving a buck.
There are many ways to organize those coupons. I will give you some options to consider...
You can organize your coupons in a traditional coupon organizer that you can purchase which looks like a mini accordion file with an elastic band around it and has dividers inside. Personally, I don't like having to purchase one when I can create my own system for a lot less. After all, I am a coupon clipper so I am a money saver.
You can buy a small bill-paying accordion file, the size you hold in your hand that's about the size of a large wallet, at your local office supply store. They come in the paper version or the colorful plastic version. With the dividers inside, you can create categories such as frozen foods, canned foods, vegetables, meats, cereals, snacks, personal items, etc. You can customize it for your own needs (another advantage to making your own).
Another option is to use an accordion file, similar in size to the one mentioned above but instead of having pre-made dividers, insert some envelopes that have the month on them and divide your coupons up by month instead of by category. This helps you keep track of expiring coupons. That is my one of my pet peeves; finding a coupon for an item that I intend to purchase only to find that it expired two days ago! This also makes it easy if you intend to keep your coupon organizer in your car for those quick stops to the store after work. You can just carry an envelope to the car to add to the organizer.
The one thing you do have to do on a monthly basis is get rid of expired coupons. There is no sense in keeping expired coupons in your organizer. Whether you use the category system or the monthly system, this is a must in order to keep your coupons current.
Although it takes a small amount of effort to clip and save coupons, when you organize them, you cut down on the time it takes to prepare your shopping list and you save money. What could be better than that? So get those coupons organized!
