NEW! - Keywords For This Page:   Garage Sales - Getting Rid Of

Blog: Life Management
G-A-R-A-G-E S-A-L-E

G - Good! You're going to get rid of a lot of unwanted items that are just taking up space in your life.  Garage Sales are a great way to rid yourself of unwanted stuff and make some cash-in-hand for your efforts.

A - Attack!  Be ruthless when going through your home to really dejunk those unused items.  It may be a shock at first but before long you'll relish how much lighter and freer you feel.

R - Rewards!  You'll reap rewards from having a sale of your stuff:  more space and some extra cash.  You might even be amazed at how letting go of material possessions also helps you let go of emotional clutter.  When you let go physically it can release you from frustration, anger, guilt, and other emotional baggage.

A - Announce.  Place signs around the area pointing people to your sale.  Place ads in the local press to get the word out about the date, time, address, and big-ticket items.

G - Growl!  Greet your customers with a smile but if Bowser is likely to growl at them, leash or lock him in your house so he doesn't scare away potential buyers.  To be on the safe side never let strangers in your home for any reason - after all, Boswer might bite!

E - Eat.  You'll need to eat the day of the sale so pack a lunch the night before.  Plan for some snacks and beverages that can be accessed easily.  You might even pick up some extra money from your sale efforts if you mark up the menu beyond your cost.

S - Set up.  Plan plenty of time to set up your garage for the sale - at least 2 days ahead of the sale date.  Tear down time should also be figured in so keep your calendar free the day you close it down.

A - Arrange.  Make your wares look attractive by the way you arrange and display items.  Use tables or lay sheets of plywood over sawhorses or chairs and drape with a tablecloth.  Clothes show best on hangers so arrange for a clothesline or rod of some sort.

L - Low.  Keep prices low to get rid of your stuff.  The goal is to sell everything and don't over estimate the value of your junk.  Be ready to negotiate downward on any and all items.  If something is that valuable it probably shouldn't be in a garage sale.

E - Enjoy!  Have a good time with friends and family who may go in on this sale with you.  Be cheerful to people who come to shop by welcoming them as they approach but give them space to browse and buy.  Most of all, enjoy the fact that this stuff is out of your house and isn't coming back in even if it doesn't sell because it's being picked up by the mission store!
