Blog: Minimizing Financial Clutter
Free & Easy Financial Organization in 2010
All of us at Absolutely Organized wish you a very happy 2010! Over the last week, I hope you have been able to take some time to reflect on the past year and to set some goals for the new year.
If one of your goals is to gain more awareness of and control over your finances – and the fact that you're reading this blog tells me that it probably is – you're going to like the simple, but powerful online tool available to you for FREE at www.mint.com.
I have used Intuit's Quicken® and QuickBooks® to track my finances for a very long time, and still like them very much. The two biggest problems with them is 1) the programs cost money, and must be upgraded every few years if you want to download transactions from your bank and 2) you have to remember to download the transactions from your bank. I have helped numerous people set up these programs on their computers, only to find that they never bothered to download their transactions.
One of the many nice things about mint.com is that it automatically logs into your bank and credit card accounts on a daily basis to download your transactions. It's one less thing for you to have to remember to do! You simply need to make sure the transactions are categorized properly so you can accurately monitor your income and expenses.
Skeptical? Well, I just tried it out for myself. It took me less than 5 minutes to set up my mint.com account and download my checking accounts. All you need are the usernames and passwords for your financial accounts.
I encourage you to go to their website and watch the video that explains how using the website can help you manage your finances. http://www.mint.com/product/videos/mint-demo/.
Whether you use mint.com, other financial software, or good old pencil and paper, TODAY is the day to start tracking your finances for 2010. It will be much more difficult for you to re-create your life as you get farther along in the year. Establish your goals and begin tracking your progress right away. Happy Financially-Organized New Year!
