GETTING THE MOM MOBILE ORGANIZED
As a busy mom, you probably feel that you live most of your life in the car. Whether it's a four door sedan, SUV, mini-van or truck, it is our means of doing the food shopping, running the errands, carting the kids to activities and social events and getting to doctor appointments.
Life is chaotic enough. Our vehicle doesn't have to be. There's nothing worse than opening the car door or the trunk and piles of stuff falls out. You can avoid having the clear the seats just to sit in them, stepping on stuff on the floor or having no room for the groceries because of the clutter. There is a solution.
Here are some suggestions:
First, empty out the entire car into bags or boxes. That's right. Remove the trash. Eliminate the things that don't belong there. Empty out the trunk and the glove compartment too. You want to start fresh.
Then, vacuum the interior, including the trunk, and wipe down the dash and windows. Nothing better than a clean interior before you start returning items to where they belong.
Put a small canvas bin or two into the back seat for the kids to keep their stuff inside. Each child can have their own if there is enough room. If you have two kids in the back seat, you ca n put one bin between them to share. This will keep their games, books, toys, etc. off the floor and the seats.
Put a small trash bag in the front on the floor and when it's full, remove it from the car and replace it with another one. This will keep the drive-thru excursions in control by not leaving empty cups, bags and wrappers laying around.
Keep a small pad of paper and pencil either in the side pocket of the door, glove compartment or in the console to take quick notes if need be. This is very important if you are ever in an accident and need to write down the information of the other driver.
Keep a minimal amount of items in the glove compartment. Put the owners manual for the vehicle, the vehicle registration and insurance card in a clear laminated pocket, a small flashlight, and other small essentials. Group items together in a small bag to keep them contained.
Put a crate in the trunk of the car with essentials such as window washer fluid, flashers, jumper cables, first aid supplies, etc.
Lastly, remember to clear the items from the day out of the car when you get home. As with everything else, organization requires maintenance and this includes your vehicle. Look around and be sure not to leave anything behind that is not needed. Get your kids involved. It's a good life lesson.
If you follow these simple steps, you will have a neat and organized "Mom Mobile".
