Thinking on Purpose
Last week we talked about how limiting beliefs can keep us stuck and stressed – and eventually our calendar, to list and our life don't reflect how we really want to live. Now I'd like to address how you can move yourself out of that syndrome and toward a day to day life of meaning and joy. When I began this process – it was life changing for me! It lifted me up out of a drab daily existence of just slicing tasks off an endless to do and appointment list and into a realm where I felt jazzed and excited every morning!
And I must tell you I wasted too many years stressed, stuck and depressed about my life – even though I was doing what I loved to do! I didn't realize how essential feeling joyful – every day – about the little things was to my health, my confidence and my energy.
I've learned 3 steps that can help – and today we'll discuss Step 1: Purposeful Thinking
All that really means is that you become aware of your thoughts. Then you can eliminate thoughts that are limiting or negative and create ones that empower and advance you. Don't get me wrong – this isn't an easy thing to do initially. It requires a high level of focus and concentration to actually think a thought and then convert it to an empowering message. And it takes an even higher level of trust to believe that thought will work for you in a positive way. But you can do it.
Start simply, with baby steps. Start by saying everything you do has a purpose. You can create energy just by perceiving that something you do has a purpose. Imagine it – you'll see it when you believe it!
For example: You're not happy with your body and you know you need to exercise more. But the very thought of working out makes you want to burrow deeper into the couch. Your focus is turned to what you don't like – instead of what you do want (a fit body, more energy, better health). You'll empower yourself when you accept where you are right now and think about how getting up and moving is going to make you feel. Even if you just walk down to the mailbox and back, you're creating motion and motivation through motion. Believe that you have the power to change your body however you choose.
Start today and cultivate your ability to view everything that happens to you in your life as having a purpose. Resist the urge to fall back on negative beliefs like what you think doesn't matter. When you develop the habit of purposeful thinking, you will begin to connect with finding your purpose (and its soulmate – passion!).
