HOW ORGANIZED IS YOUR CAR?
Does your car look more like a garbage can than a means of transportation? Take time to get organized with some simple hints from fellow organizer Sandra Felton's, The Messies Superguide:
Keeping a little bag in the car is a must! Teach family member of all ages to put their trash in it, and assign someone to empty it weekly when the rest of the garbage is collected. Each time you leave the car, check to see if there is something I it that needs to be brought into the house.
Keep a shoebox under the front seat for small essentials such as paper towels, wet wipes, pen, pad of paper, and a comb or brush. Save the glove compartment for maps, car operator's manual, and a flashlight. Don't let either become a junk box! Remember, if you get rid of the junk, you won't need a place to keep it.
Are your cassettes/CD's/DVD's scattered all over the car? Buy a cheap storage box for these items. If you enjoy coffee while driving, consider getting a wide-based, tip-resistant travel mug. They really work!
For emergencies, make sure you keep the necessary tools in the trunk of your car, like a shovel, emergency flares, chains, jumper cables, and a first aid kit. Wrap them in a blanket or pad to keep them from rattling around. Keep an old piece of heavy plastic in the trunk to kneel on in case you have to change a tire. You might also keep an extra quart of oil in an old liquid detergent bottle so you won't have to grapple with can openers or funnels when you need it.
Have you ever locked yourself out of the car? Keep an extra car key in a small magnetic box somewhere under the hood. Make sure it's accessible from the outside if your hood only opens from inside the car, but it keep it well hidden from a would-be car thief.
Take time to organize your car now to save you frustration later!
