Blog: Life Fitness
I'm happy and grateful I've got good health and energy but there are days (like today) when I'm tired, it's raining and I don't feel like working out. But I know that once I get myself moving I'll feel better and after I'm finished I'll be glad I did it.
I made a commitment in my 20's to fitness and it's a habit now as natural to me as brushing my teeth. I'm not a competitive athlete. I'm not a shark in the water, or a cycle-cross maniac or even a marathon runner. I just like the feeling of movement. Everybody's different, but I'm a believer in movement therapy. Any movement is good movement (and some is really good!) It's like listening to great music - it creates a feeling. Sometimes it's confidence, sometimes stress relief, sometimes it's just letting yourself be in the present moment without obsessing about responsibility and schedule. Hopefully it ignites your energy and recharges your batteries. And it's always beautiful.
You don't have to get up at 5 a.m. and it doesn't have to be hours at the gym. Just get moving at some point during the day and pay attention to the feeling during and after your workout. Start with baby steps and give it a few weeks. I had a client who was having trouble getting to the health club to work out due to her extremely busy work schedule. She finally opted for purchasing an elliptical machine and free weights and set up her home gym in a guest bedroom. She started with carving out 15 minutes, 3 times a week and after a couple of months had upped her workout to 45 minutes, 5 times a week and had lost 20 pounds.
She focused solely on establishing a relationship with exercise and how she felt after she worked out. The weight loss was a huge bonus! Recently I asked her how her program was going and she replied "It's just a natural part of my life now." Whoo Hoo!
