What's the point? It should be you.

Interior designers know that to create a visually appealing, warm and inviting space you start with a focal point. It could be a beautiful piece of furniture, art or a dramatic view.  Once you have your focal point you can remodel, paint, paper, and tile – you've got a vision and a plan and you know just how it's going to turn out!
Making YOU the focal point is a simple, positive way to design your life. When you are operating at peak performance you have the energy, purpose and passion to influence your world and your relationships in a very powerful way.  It helps all the other elements in your life fall into place.
In other words, secure your own oxygen mask before attempting to assist others.  As organizers, we KNOW this - but do we always practice it?
Making the decision to change your habits starts by making a personal choice.  We get so caught up in all there is to do that we forget WE'RE the ones in charge of the show!  The perception often is that an energy rich life is impossible.  Don't you believe it! Even the smallest change can make a HUGE difference in your life!
For example, a client of mine was looking at a possible career change as a way to escape the stress that was overwhelming her life.  She was a strong and determined "superwoman" – managing a house, children and a full time job.  She imagined that starting her own business would bring her more flexibility and freedom.
When we took a deeper look, however, it became obvious that changing careers was too much to start with right out of the gate. It's like trying to sort through your stuff and dispose of items when you're in the middle of a time crunched move.  The stress is just too intense for you to make good decisions clearly.
Before she could think about starting a business she needed to free up her energy and recharge her motivation batteries.  In most cases, we simply need to give ourselves permission to take care of ourselves!  Start with your own personal self-care baby steps – like hiring a housecleaner to relieve some of the household chore stress or a mother's helper to sit with the kids so you can have some "ME" time away from your business.
As for my client, once her stress level decreased due to the increase in time and space in her schedule – she felt empowered to release other energy drains in her life and eventually to transition from full time to part time in her job while she built a new business.
Energy drains are physical.  There is a distinct physical component to energy that you can feel when you aren't aligned with your values and beliefs.
Cheryl Richardson, Life Coach and author of Make Time for Your Life describes it like this.  Imagine cords of energy running from you to all of the unfinished business in your life, to the clutter, the tasks, the misplaced priorities.  Commit today to freeing up your time by identifying and eliminating what drains your energy.  It doesn't make any sense to add more work to an already full plate.  Subtraction – not addition in this case – will immediately improve the quality of your life – and increase your energy!
