Do you ever get to the end of the week and feel frustrated because you never get time to do the things you should do or really want to do? Ted Engstrom, past President of World Vision, spent years leading seminars on Christian Time Management. He advises that you set goals in six important areas that are often get neglected.  When all the daily tasks seems to consume so much of your time, Engstrom says that writing down goals in six major areas can help balance your time.  You might want to write down his six categories:

  1. Time with God
  2. Time with your family
  3. Time for yourself
  4. Time with friends
  5. Time for the work of Christ
  6. Time to plan

He also suggests that you plan one or two hours each day for the unexpected things that come up, such as a neighbor dropping in to talk or a spontaneous lunch with a friend.  If you schedule time for these unplanned events, you won't be frustrated when they happen.  And if they don't, you'll have extra time to spend on one of your own projects!
Think about each of these areas-they're ones that most often get neglected or blown out of perspective.  Spend time evaluating each area.  How much time do you spend, for instance, in time with God or in time with friends?  How much time would you like to spend?  If you could, would you spend more time or less on yourself, your family, work in the church?  Once you've thought about each of these general areas, you'll want to list specific things you want to accomplish in each.
Over the next several weeks we'll talk more about setting specific goals in these six areas of life.  Until next week, take time to think about making a priority your time with God, with your family, yourself, with friends, with the work of Christ, and in planning!
