Blog: Use Your Space & Conquer Office Workflow
Office Memorabilia
Office memorabilia is often referred to as clutter. It is the stuff hanging around your cubicle that makes your co-workers think your space is a little "junkie." Of course to you it is not clutter or junk; it is a magnet with a funny statement which makes you laugh, an Elvis paperweight from your first conference in Vegas, an inspirational bookmark given to you by a friend when your cat died, etc. Each item represents a memory or a point in time in your life, often your office-life. If you decide you're ready to make a change in the appearance of your work environment, here are some steps.
-
Sort the items (you may not realize you actually have 5 buttons from the walk-a-thon)
-
Select and keep the items that have the strongest emotional value. Purge or throw-away the rest, including duplicates
-
Decide what to do with the items you want to keep based on their inspirational value. For items that inspire you daily, display them. For items that you only need to visit periodically, place in a memorabilia box and store on a shelf.
