Do Your Tupperware® lids have babies at night?
Is it just my imagination or do things like Tupperware lids, crayons and markers multiply when we're not looking? I swear sometimes when I open my cupboards, those lids are laughing at me.
If you've ever found yourself sifting through lid after lid looking for the blue round one with the vent in the top with a burn mark on the edge and you just can't find it, then you understand my frustration.
When my son was five years old he learned how to empty the dishwasher. His method for putting the food storage lids away was an interesting one. He would open the lower cupboard, look from side to side to see if I was around, then wildly toss the lid into the cupboard, quickly slamming it shut before anything fell to the floor.
Then whenever I went to that same cupboard to locate a container, I was usually greeted with a multitude of containers cascading out. I may be blonde but I'm no dummy. I knew there HAD to be a better way.
I gathered all my containers and lids and sorted out the orphans. Now I was left with just the containers who still had lids to claim. I placed all the lids into a shoe-box-size plastic bin. I was amazed at how many I could store in this.
I showed Jake this new container and explained that this was the new way of storing lids. Even though he was only five, he got it. It actually made his job easier (maybe not as much fun!) because now there was a specific "home" assigned for the lids.
So stop fighting the lid war. Corral them and give them a home!
Have an orderly day!
