Keep All Your Lists in One Place
Important thoughts occur spontaneously throughout the day. Things to do, to follow up on, to buy, to talk with someone about. If you don't capture them immediately, they'll be gone. Since memories are notoriously unreliable, and most of us already have too many things to keep track of, keep a PDA, smart phone or small notebook with you all the time so you can enter them before you forget.
Keep all your lists, ideas and to-dos in that one place. Don't let yourself develop the habit of jotting things down on random pads of paper. I've seen too many people frustrated by notepads all over their office, each one having the top half-dozen sheets of paper covered with lists of various sorts. The result is they don't know where to look next, what has already been done, and what has been overlookedlost in the visual clutter of half-completed, partially crossed-off, to-do lists.
If everything you need to remember is in one place, you know exactly where to look when you are on your way to a meeting, ready to return phone calls, at the store, or find yourself with a few extra moments to get something done. To make things easier, you can create separate sections to enter tasks of different categories.
To make things easier still, this place with all your lists would also be where you keep your planner-calendar! That way, you can quickly transfer a task from one of your lists right into your calendar when you see you have an open slot in your schedule.
You'll find that you avoid clutter and get more done by keeping all your lists in one place!
