ENJOY THOSE CHRISTMAS CARDS!
Traditionally our family received a large stack of Christmas cards from friends and relatives who live all over the country, from neighbors and business associates. Each card is appreciated, but in this busy season, how do you have enough time to enjoy each message and each memory the card represents?
Sometimes all we have time to do is open the envelope, look at the signature, give a quick smile, and toss the card into your pretty decorated basket. And then, don't you feel just a little guilty? After all you know how much time it takes to send out all those Christmas cards!
If you have a highly visible door, for example your front door, a hallway or closet door, why not decorate it to look like a large gift with gold or brightly colored Christmas wrapping paper. Add a bow or ribbons, then tape all your cards to the door as a reminder that each card is a gift from a friend. During your busy days, if you need a moment of encouragement, stop and look at one or several cards, read the verses, and carry the thoughts with you as you continue working.
Or, maybe your best enjoyment of these cards can come after Christmas. One family puts all their cards in a basket. Each night during family devotions they read one card, share a special memory about the person who sent it, then include that person in their family prayers. This way Christmas memories can last for several weeks or months!
If you enjoy writing letters, you might put all these cards in a special box. Each Sunday you could pick one or more cards, then send that person a note or postcard telling them that you are thinking of them that day. Or maybe you prefer a quick phone call to that friend. Whatever you decide, take time to enjoy your Christmas cards. If not today-the in the weeks ahead.
