MAKE SLEEP WORK FOR YOU
Most people value their sleep time. But doctors have found that some people spend many hours in sleep for which there was no physical need. If you can change your sleep habit, you'll probably find no difference in your health or ability to function.
Try this experiment: Reduce your sleep by on half hour a night. Give yourself a few days to get adjusted to the new pattern. If you find you can be just as effective with less sleep, you'll gain 3 and ½ hours a week. That's a whole afternoon's worth of time! Just think what you could accomplish with that time.
If your body can't give up a half hour of sleep, find another way to gain that time. Can you go to bed a half hour earlier? Take note of what you are usually doing that last half hour before bedtime. Too many people spend the time watching TV. That may be a form of relaxing, but is it the best use of your time? Then you could set your alarm a half hour earlier in the morning, and gain some time that way.
If you're having creative thoughts in the middle of the night or you're perseverating on things you might forget causing lost sleep, you may want to purchase my " Notes in the Night…don't lose thoughts or sleep". You'll find it on this website. It is a light-up pen and pad that come in a nylon bag making it a great gift to someone or… yourself.
What about the nights when you awaken and just cannot fall back to sleep? How can you use that time effectively without becoming frustrated? A friend keeps a small book light and an easy reading magazine by her bed. When she wakes up in the middle of the night, the short stores keep her mind focused, plus she finally gets time to finish some of those stacked up magazines. Be sure the light is bright enough so you won't harm your eyes, but not so bright you wake your spouse. If you don't want to turn on a light, these wee hours are good time to talk with the Lord. Tell Him whatever it is that's troubling your sleep and before you know it the alarm clock will be waking you up!
