IT PAYS TO MAKE WISE PURCHASES
Ken is one of those people who seem to think he needs every outdoor yard tool that Sears and Roebuck ever invented! Among his collection are the biggest snow blower, the most expensive leaf blower, and the best electric lawn edger. And of course, he had to move to a larger house that has a garage big enough to store all his toys, un, I mean tools.
Maybe Ken is one-of-a-kind, but a lot of us make purchases we "think" we need. And then we have to find a place to store them!
How can we make wise purchases? If you're fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood like the one I did for twenty-two years, maybe you can start a cooperative. We shared some yard tools with our neighbors, things like yard edgers, and extension ladders. A friend of mine went in with some neighbors to purchase a snow blower and lawnmower.
You might also consider whether it's more cost effective to rent a tool you might use only once in a while, like a rotor tiller, fertilize spreader, or even camping equipment.
Lest you outdoor people start to feel picked on, seldom used indoor equipment can also be rented, like carpet cleaners, party sized coffee makers, or extra tables for Holiday Company. And what about all those gadgets that advertised they would make your life better? How many of us have electric sandwich makers, or our own personal exercise stepping machine, or professional juice extractor. And what are we teaching our children when we purchase the fad toys all their friends have, especially the huge ones that are seldom played with, but take up lots of storage room.
Before you make any purchase, be sure to ask, do I need it? Will I use it? And, how much storage space will I need to keep it?
