DON'T GO BACK TO SLEEP!
The alarm clock buzzes you out of your dream state so you reach over and hit the snooze button. You don't go back to sleep, but take time to have fun exercising instead.
Yes, you read that right, "...have fun exercising". Believe it or not you can make exercising enjoyable. Begin by making sure you've chosen an exercise you like. Stop and consider how much fun children have on a playground. They're exercising and having a great time doing so. Granted, you may not seek that particular level of "fun" in your workout, but you can find one that is pleasing to you.
Ask yourself the following questions: What kind of activity do you like the most? Dancing? Roller blading? Playing basketball? Why do you like it? Why are you not taking part in it now? What can you do about that? What other activities might be equally satisfying? You may just find yourself pondering something totally new. It doesn't matter how different the activity may seem, go with your feeling. Try it you might like it!
Then, REWARD YOURSELF. By setting up a reward system you'll tend to keep going until your chosen activity becomes second nature. For example, if you survive a racquetball lesson; reward yourself with a soak in the club hot tub. Or you did aerobics for a week; now you can justify a new exercise outfit. Positive reinforcement has a long been acknowledged as a mainstay in behavior modification. Rewards create pleasurable and positive associations about exercise. So, tomorrow morning – don't hit the snooze button – hit the exercise mat!
