MAKE YOUR MOVE EASY
According to Jon Sorber, president of Two Men and a Truck, "The best that someone can do to make a move easier, is to put a lot of thought into their move preparations." After 10+ years of moving experience Jon has some do's and don'ts for moving day that I'd like to share with you today. If you're not moving soon just take some mental notes for future reference.
Begin by researching the Movers. You can and should actually shop for a mover. Don't just go for the lowest price but remember the old adage, "You get what you pay for", so make sure you know what you'll get for your money's worth.
Check to see that the move is fully insured for replacement costs and, yes, it's perfectly acceptable to ask for proof of this insurance from the mover's insurance agent, keeping in mind this old adage, "Better safe than sorry." Ask questions like: What will I get for the hourly rate-one mover or two? Is equipment included? What about mileage? Cover it all so there are no surprises when you get your bill.
Some additional questions are, if they are bonded and if they are full-time movers or just temporary movers sent over from an employment agency that day. After all these questions if you want further references call your Better Business Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce, or the Association of Realtors.
Keep in mind these movers will be in charge of all your possessions, so you should really check their references thoroughly! Lastly, tell the mover everything so that your quote will ensure the most accurate estimate.
